Why do children in care
need your help?

It is estimated that over 30,000 children a year need foster care for a variety of different reasons. At Orchard Care Fostering, in Durham we are a not-for-profit fostering agency that works to support foster carers and children in care. Find out more about how you can help by getting in touch.

Foster carers play a vital role
when it comes to the safety and well-being of children

Foster care is a temporary home that is provided when a child or young person cannot stay with their biological family. There are many different reasons that a child may need foster care, but it is often because of neglect, abuse, family illness or the death of a parent.

At Orchard Care Fostering, we have almost 20 years of experience as a small, friendly fostering agency and we make it our mission to transform the lives of those children within the foster care system in the Northeast. We celebrate achievement and encourage success and most importantly we always offer support to our children and their foster carers. All children and young people deserve to be provided with the same opportunities, to be made to feel safe, respected and listened to, to be provisioned with the essential life skills that will help them to succeed as they transition to adulthood. We are a special fostering agency that cares for you, so you can care for children.

Every foster child is an individual that needs support, encouragement and nurturing

  • As a foster carer you would play a vital role in providing care, support, and stability to a child during a challenging time in their lives.

  • You would work in collaboration with Orchard Care Fostering, social workers and the child welfare system to ensure the well-being of the child in your care.

  • A pivotal part of looking after a child in foster care is providing emotional support, particularly for children that have experienced trauma, abuse, neglect or the death of a parent. You may need to support a child when they are presenting challenging behaviour, which is why we are here to help you every step of the way.

  • Foster care is not a ‘one size fits all solution’ and there are many types of care that you can explore from emergency foster care to long-term foster care or even care for those with siblings or additional needs.
